Hi all Can anyone help. Our camper starts fine and goes down the road fine, but, from idle to running is rubbish. The pick up just doesn’t happen, need to rev too high to get going. The carb has an air tube to the distributor for the fine advance or retard operation which I think is the problem. I have disconnected each end and have blown through each way with little resistance. Any ideas please. Philip

Unfortunately hardly anyone visits the forum so you could be waiting a very long time for any reply or assistance. Can only advise that the club Facebook page may get a better response for you.

site not use much sadly so far. have we tried a club search ? eg Volkswagen camper owners. club? our. sites such as piston heads? these sites are very much used and bound to be a few whom have come across same issues. sounds as though your distributor advance ( vacuum) isn't working! as never seenVW unit this I can't offer direct help. though I did get a replacement for mine via distributor doctor ( web site) . with my vacuum unit mounted on side of distributor I test it by applying a vacuum and watching mounting patle for points move as vacuum was increased and springing back when vacuum released. showing It was advancing! you might be able to see something helpful on line too eg u tube or a web search for how to check unit!

Thanks anyway. I did actually solve the problem. There were two small outlets from the carb that were not capped properly so air getting where it was not supposed to be. That’s all it was. Unfortunately I was misled by the “learned” and told of huge costs etc to rectify. Running fine now.
